Inconsequential Holidays…

Presidents Day – a holiday created to honor Washington & Lincoln – commonly referred to as a “freebie” to most of us working stiffs. A Monday just long enough after the family filled holidays of November & December to guiltlessly warrant a self centered play day. A morning full of tea sipping, puppy snuggling, errand running, & book reading. Who could ask for anything more?!?!?

Well, instead of sleeping in & lounging until noon, I took my tea to go & decided to hit a few local consignment shops & find some much needed dining room chairs. Well, let me save your curiosity – that plan was a bust – I didn’t find a single un-rocking chair anywhere. But, I did stumble onto the cutest little corner writing desk. Until this point I’ve been shifting my laptop between the dining table, floor, and couch – I decided if I plan on making a go of this “writing” thing – I should probably have a desk to call my own – a magic desk, so I’ll have somewhere to pose while being interviewed after my first best seller…

And so, my Martha Stewart-esque day began…

One coat of “Arabian Red’ applied – and my magic desk is looking more like a misshapen orange – hmm… Before too much paint could dry, 2 of the 10 plagues decided to make an appearance – alright, so maybe it was only a few little flies & rain/hail but still – it made the drying process impossible outdoors – meaning the wet desk & myself wrestled our way back into the dining room.  Luckily – before I had a chance to be overwhelmed by what I had assumed to be a small creative project – my right hand man stepped up to help point out a few places where the paint was the wettest.

3 hours, 1 shower, a cat bath, 5 scratches, 7 band aids & a glass of wine later – I’m exhausted, but extremely proud of my new, one of a kind magic desk! Oh yea, the paint dried darker – Thank God!
